We Just Let Them "BEE"

Logo for Arden Apiaries with bee and honeycomb design.

About Us

We are a small apiary in Swartz Creek, Michigan with a focus on all natural, treatment free beekeeping.  Our goal is to keep local strains of bees with good genetics that can manage pests and disease without chemical intervention.

Our Local Honey

Our goal is to have the most pure wild flower honey you can get.  We NEVER feed sugar syrup to supplement our bees to get them through winter or during spring build up.  We work with the bees and only take what they can spare.  We also keep capped honey on hand in case of a shortage of resources brought on by a late spring.  This is to ensure the best quality food for our bees. Our main honey harvest is around mid October.  This gives the bees the best opportunity to arrange their hive for winter.  We may have a small harvest in the spring once the nectar flow starts.  The beeswax that we use for any of our products will always be from our own bees.  This way we can be sure that it is free of chemicals.

We Use Layens Hives

  • The Layens hive is popular in Europe and slowly gaining ground in America.
  • It is much easier to manage then the typical Langstroth hives because it cuts down on the heavy lifting and bending.
  • It is less intrusive to the bees.  You aren't constantly having to stack and unstack boxes.
  • It uses deeper and slightly narrower frames which mimics bees natural tree cavities that they would normally occupy.
  • The hive is insulated which helps the bees stay warmer and use less honey to do so.
